The Permanent Representative of Angola to the UN in Nairobi, Ambassador Sianga Abílio, participated in a High-Level African Regional Conference on Combating Terrorism and the Prevention of Violent Extremism, which took place in Nairobi from July10 to 11, 2019.
The Chief Superintendent of the Criminal Investigation Service, Mr. Augusto de Carvalho, and diplomats from the Diplomatic Mission in Nairobi were part of the Angolan delegation.
The event was chaired by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and was attended by Kenyan Head of State, President Uhuru Kenyatta, African Union Commission President Moussa Faki Mahamat, Diplomatic Corps and Government Representatives.
The Conference addressed topics related to the great and complex challenge for the international community which is the growth of violent extremist actions leading to terrorism.
Evils that promote violent extremism, such as fear, distrust, intercultural confrontation, conflict, destruction and instability, were also debated by the lecturers.
The High-Level African Regional Conference on Terrorism, Prevention and Violent Extremism also addressed the need for concerted efforts by the international community to identify effective measures and solutions and to promote proven practices and methodologies.
The need for information sharing, cooperation and collaboration not only within the United Nations system but also among donors, beneficiaries, regional organizations, think tanks, expert bodies and experts dealing with the phenomenon of terrorism on a daily basis was also part of the subjects discussed at the Conference.
On the sidelines of the Conference, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Angola to the UN in Nairobi, Sianga Abilio, held a courtesy meeting with UN Secretary General António Guterres.
