The Angolan Community in the Republic of Kenya gathered in Nairobi, on 17 September 2023, for an event commemorating National Hero and Nations Founder's Day.
The ceremony, co-organised by the Angolan Embassy in Kenya and the Association of Angolans Residing in Kenya, was highlighted by a speech by Minister Counsellor, Efigénia Jorge, representing Ambassador Sianga Abílio, who was in New York attending the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly.
In her speech, the Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Angola spoke about the life and work of Dr. António Agostinho Neto, National Hero and Founder of the Nation, highlighting the important role played by Dr António Agostinho Neto in the struggle for national liberation and the achievement of National Independence, while also praising the statesman, humanist and literary aspects of the first President of the Republic of Angola.
The event commemorating National Heroes' Day in Nairobi included a cultural moment dominated by the recitation of poems written by Dr. António Agostinho Neto.
The final part of the event was reserved for the process of renewing the mandates of the governing body of the Association of Angolans Residing in Kenya, which culminated in the election of Mr. Sebastião Dejoro, to head the Association for the next 12 months, replacing Arnaldo Panzo, who has chaired the Association of Angolans Residing in Kenya for the last two years.
