Ambassador Sianga Abilio attended, on 16 June 2023 in Nairobi, the 162nd meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to the United Nations Environment Programme - UNEP, an event convened to, among several issues, proceed with the election of a new Bureau composed of a President, two Vice Presidents and a rapporteur , for a two-year term (2023-2024).
At the meeting the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UNEP Ms Inger Anderesen presented to the Permanent Representatives an activity report, including the main developments in the United Nations Environment Programme for the period of January to March 2023, while the UNEP Secretariat presented a report on the outcome of a discussion on the financial outlook and funding challenges of this UN Programme.
The Permanent Representatives Committee in Nairobi meets quarterly and is tasked to participate in discussions for the establishment of global policies, projects and programmes on Environment in addition to the definition of Annual Activity Plans and Budget of UNEP.
