The Angolan writer living in Portugal Yara Nakahanda Monteiro held on 29 September 2022, in Nairobi, a meeting with readers, members of the Angolan community living in Kenya and representatives of the Angolan Embassy, for a talk on her book "Loose Ties" (Laços Perdidos), title of the English version of her book "Essa Dama Bate Bwe".
At the event, promoted by Cheche Bookshop with the sponsorship of the Angolan Embassy in Nairobi, the writer talked about her work, a novel that tells the story of an Angolan citizen who decided to return to her country in search of information about her origins and family history after having lived in Portugal since a tender age as a refugee following the outbreak of the post-independence civil war.
The novel "Loose Ties" was launched in February 2022 in Nairobi and according to Cheche Bookshop is having a very satisfactory sales rate having integrated the list of best-selling books.
The Angolan writers Yara Nakahanda Monteiro and José Eduardo Agualusa were invited to participate in the Macondo Literary Festival from 30 September to 02 October, 2022, in Nairobi. This is an event aimed at bringing together writers to promote Anglophone, Francophone and Lusophone literature from Africa and Brazil.
The Macondo Literary Festival which was hosted at the Kenya Cultural Centre was honoured with the presence of Tanzanian writer Abdulrazak Gurna Nobel Laureate for Literature 2022.
According to the organizers the word Macondo was taken from the famous book "One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, where it appears as the name of a fictitious place where magical things happen.
