The city of Nairobi was the scene of a cultural project for the showcase and promotion of Kizomba dance.
The event, called “Kizomba Dance Week in Nairobi”, was held from 16 to 21 August, 2019 and was supported by the Angolan Embassy.
At a meeting leading to the “Kizomba Dance Week in Nairobi”, Ambassador Sianga Abílio welcomed the project promoters and encouraged them to continue spreading the message that Kizomba is a dance originating from Angola therefore it is a heritage that should make all Africans proud, mainly for its current world dimension, playing the role of unifying peoples of different social backgrounds.
The project was led by Kenyan dancer and choreographer Ronnie Ekessa, head of District Kizomba, a community-based organization and a Kizomba and African dance-oriented school in central Nairobi, offering stakeholders a platform for learning. Kizomba, Semba, Kuduro, Chakacha, Afro-House and other traditional African dances.
The “Kizomba Dance Week in Nairobi” was attended by Angolan artists, such as Master Petchu (dance teacher), Walter Ananás (musician and composer), DJ Jó Costa and Bonifácio Aúrio, and involved135 Kenyan citizens and of other nationalities.
