The President of the National Assembly Dr. Carolina Cerqueira participated on 31 March 2023, in Juba, in the Opening Session of the 13th Ordinary Session of the Plenary Assembly of the Forum of the Parliaments of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-CIRGL) which is scheduled to close on Saturday, 01 April 2023.
The event on 31 March was chaired by the 2nd Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan James Wani Igga and included the intervention of the Executive Secretary of the ICGLR João Samuel Caholo who presented the current framework of the Great Lakes region.
On the sidelines of the working session and in an exercise of Parliamentary Diplomacy the Speaker of the National Assembly Dr. Carolina Cerqueira met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Burundi Daniel Ndabirabe to exchange information and envisage cooperation actions and later on gave an interview to the press in South Sudan.
During the working session the parliamentary delegations analyzed the political, security and humanitarian situation in the Great Lakes region, focusing on the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of the Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan, the latter now chairing the ICGLR Forum of Parliaments.
