The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, António Francisco de Assis, said on August 08, 2023, in Kampala, Uganda, that the government of the Republic of Angola is seriously committed to revitalising the national coffee sector, based on promoting the production programmes aimed at the family sector.
The Minister António Francisco de Assis, made that statement while speaking at the work session of the Second Summit of the group of 25 African coffee producing countries - G25, which took place in the Ugandan capital from 07 to 10 August 2023, under the slogan "Transforming the African Coffee Sector through Add Value ".
The event, at which the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry represented the President of the Republic, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, discussed, among other things, topics such as the future of the African coffee industry based on the African Continental Free Trade Area; financial options for added value; production and productivity in the African coffee region; sharing experiences for creating a coffee culture in Africa; the role of research in added value; strategies for promoting added value and; access to new markets.
The Second African Coffee Summit, whose opening session was chaired by the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, aims to create a platform for the governments of the 25 African coffee-producing countries to work together in search of consensus on building an integrated African coffee sector with a view to consolidating the intention of making coffee a strategic commodity under the aegis of the African Union in line with its Agenda 2063.
On the sidelines of the working session, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, António Francisco de Assis, held meetings with the Ugandan Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Frank Tumwebaze, and with the Secretary General of the Inter-African Coffee Organisation, Solomon Rutega, and the agenda was dominated by issues related to strengthening cooperation.
