Ambassador Téte António, Minister of External Relations, left on 22nd January 2024, the city of Kampala, on his way back to the Angola after having attended the 3rd Summit of the Group of 77 countries plus China, representing His Excellency João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola.
At Entebbe International Airport Ambassador Téte António, Minister of External Relations received farewell greetings from Mr Katumba Wamala, Minister of Public Works and Transport of Uganda and from Engineer Sianga Abílio, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to the Republic of Uganda with Residence in Nairobi.
The 3rd Summit of the Group of 77 countries plus China, which took place under the slogan "Leave No One Behind", brought together various Heads of State and Government and leaders of International Organisations, with the highlights being Mogweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, Ranil Wickremesinghe, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Faustin Archange Touadera, President of the Central African Republic and António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations.
The Group of 77 countries plus China is a platform for interaction and consultation at United Nations level made up of 134 member states with the aim of promoting South-South cooperation in a wide variety of areas, with an emphasis on the economic and social sectors.
At the Summit held in Kampala the Heads of State and Government adopted the Final Document in which they reaffirmed their commitment to collectively dedicate themselves to pursuing global development and "win-win" cooperation based on broad consultations, joint contributions and shared benefits, which can bring enormous gains to all countries and all parts of the world in building a community of shared future for humanity.
The Republic of Uganda took over the rotating chairmanship of the Group of 77 plus China for a period of one year, replacing the Republic of Cuba, which ended its mandate.
