Angolan Ambassador, Sianga Abílio, held a videoconference meeting in Nairobi with the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for the Great Lakes the Ambassador Huang Xia where was addressed the need for greater intervention by countries in the region to resolve local issues.
The Meeting dealt with the Strategy to strengthen the role of the UN in the Region reflected in a message from the United Nations addressed to the Government of the Republic of Angola.
At the meeting Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for the Great Lakes again congratulated the President of the Republic of Angola, His Excellency João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço on his initiative to promote Quadripartite meetings in the Region pointing out how one of the results of this effort the release on July 7, 2020 by Uganda of the last contingent of 12 Rwandan citizens which he considered to be quote “a good gesture for the peace and stabilization of the Region” end of quote.
In this perspective the Ambassador Huang Xia encouraged the investment in African solutions initiatives and reiterated the United Nations' willingness to help and support actions for peace, stability and harmonious development in the Region, while also appealing to leaders the Region to find similar solutions for reconciliation between Rwanda and Burundi.
The Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations took the opportunity to invite the Republic of Angola to participate in the meeting on Natural Resources which will take place next September in Khartoum - Sudan and in the Conference on Trade and Investments to be held in Kigali from 02 to 03 December, 2020.
The Ambassador Huang Xia recalled that the sixth (6th) Meeting of the Great Lakes Region on Judicial Cooperation will take place in Luanda-Angola on a date yet to be announced.
