The Ambassador, Sianga Abílio, presented, on September 17, 2021, to the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, the Letter of Credence that accredit him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Angola in the Republic of Uganda, with residence in Nairobi.
At the ceremony, which took place at the Presidential Palace in Entebbe, the President of the Republic of Uganda His Excellency Yoweri Museveni reiterated the need for Uganda to strengthen political and economic cooperation with Angola, two countries in the Great Lakes Region with great potential in natural resources.
The President Yoweri Museveni recalled some figures of Angolan nationalism who, with him, received military training in Dar es Salam (Tanzania) as well as showing knowledge of the ethnic mosaic of Angola.
As for bilateral cooperation Angola and Uganda signed in February 2014, an Agreement in Kampala, aimed at strengthening and improving political and economic cooperation between the two countries with an emphasis on trade.
On the military side, in June 2019 a delegation from the Ministry of State for Defense and Veterans Affairs of the Homeland of Uganda visited the Republic of Angola to learn about Angola's experience in the chapter of special protection and assistance to former combatants, war disabled and their families, a matter that interests Uganda because its legal regime protects only the military excluding support to their families.
On the other hand, in addition to dynamic contacts, bilaterally and multilaterally, within the framework of the International Conference for the Great Lakes Region, a sub-regional organization currently chaired by the Angolan Head of State João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço Angola and Uganda could, in the near future, enhance its cooperation in the oil sector, an area in which Uganda has great hopes for its economy.
The Republic of Uganda has been an important partner of the Republic of Angola in efforts to pacify and stabilize the Great Lakes Region within the scope of the work of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region and the Quadripartite Summits for the rapprochement between Rwanda and Uganda promoted by Angola with the participation of Uganda, Rwanda and DRC, with a package of satisfactory results as in the cases of the process of liberation and reciprocal repatriation of citizens by Uganda and Rwanda and the ongoing efforts for the resumption trade between the two countries.
The Ambassador Sianga Abílio is also Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Angola to the Republic of Kenya and to the Federal Republic of Somalia.
